Ben Dain-Smith is an unsigned Singer-Songwriter from Cardiff, dreaming of hearing his songs on the radio.
His debut EP “Lost At Sea” was a homemade affair after he grew tired of searching for the perfect sound with various producers working on very limited time. The result was a record full of imperfections but also plenty of heart and hard work. It was recorded on free software with largely second hand equipment, in his bedroom at the family home and he had never once had any production lessons or experience at this point.
“The Call” was a very emotional single, written immediately after receiving some very bad news. He was on holiday at the time and hadn’t picked up his guitar to write a song in quite a while. He knew instinctively that his best way to process the news would be to just write about it and so it was written in little over 10 minutes. The song was recorded in one take and he decided to release it because it was a landmark moment in his life and he wanted some evidence of how he felt.
Ben’s final record release to this point is his second EP, “Last Chance”. This one was recorded largely in the same circumstances as the first, only now with a little more knowledge. It’s also far rockier with a good few guitar solos knocking about the place and even a piano based song.
